  • Travel insurance is necessary for your vacation packages and without it all your travel dreams cannot come true. Travel insurance is essential for a traveler as it covers your medical and financial expenses and losses incurred on your domestic or international travel. It’s usually arranged at the time of booking the trip and covers the exact duration of the trip.

Many travel agents offer insurance, as part of their travel packages but it will be worth for you if you arrange it on your own through an online source. You can search for a good insurance policy and choose between single and multi trip insurances. If you plan to travel once in a year, then travel insurance of single trip policy will be suitable. But if you have plans to travel frequently then you can consider taking multi trip insurance policy. Continuous insurance can be bought from travel agents, travel suppliers like tour operators, cruise lines and companies offering travel insurance.

A multi trip insurance policy is commonly referred as annual insurance travel policy and can save big money in the long run. While arranging for insurance policies for travel, be clear with what the insurance coverage is provided along with the inclusions and exclusions. Always remember to look at other things also if you look for a compromise between your travel insurance coverage and the premium to be paid. Never assume that a policy with cheap premium will not offer good insurance coverage. This may work in reverse also. A policy taken at a higher price need not cover all aspects of insurance coverage required by you.

As a traveler you face lot of problems and risks while traveling like loss of property and money, trip cancellation, natural calamities, accidents, occasionally death and terrorist attacks. You cannot prevent these risks or stop your travel plan but you can reduce the risk involved by taking travel insurance policies.

The concept of travel insurance is very simple. You pay a travel insurance premium to the company and they in turn covers for your loss of valuables, accidents and unforeseen things.

The premium you pay for travel insurance covers risks faced on travel like:

There are lots of possibilities for trip cancellation due to unavoidable circumstances and last minute cancellation will fetch you very less amount as refund. Your travel insurance covers such losses and provides the cancellation cost but the reason for cancellation must be part of the agreement you have signed with the company.

If you lose your baggage then the insurance company pays for the baggage cost but again based on the rules of your insurance contract. A travel insurance policy sometimes covers your medical expenses if incurred while traveling. But if you have got health insurance separately then you don’t have to spend again for health insurance during travel.

Generally travel insurance covers other things like accidental death, medical evacuation etc.

An important golden rule of all insurance policies is to go through the agreement carefully because most of the time you apply for insurance policies during emergencies.

Travel insurance is offered with various options for different types of travelers like student, business, adventure, international and leisure travelers. Travel insurance is also offered for participating in sports involving high risk and traveling to certain countries which have a high risk.

  • Hong Kong was once a sleepy fishing village. But, with the arrival of the British in 1842, it became a crown colony of the United Kingdom, which continued until 1997, when the British handed it over to China, after signing an historic agreement by the then prime minister of the UK, Margaret Thatcher, and the then Chinese President, Deng Xiaoping.

The city has now become one of the vibrant destinations in the world, apart from being a prominent economic center in Asia. The World Tourism Organization rates the city among the 15 most preferred tourist destinations in the world. Al though a part of China, Hong Kong is quite different from rest of the nation, and has its own government and legal systems, monetary policy, and immigration policy. Situated in Eastern Asia, bordered by the South China Sea, it is made up of three areas, such as, the Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula, and the New Territories as well as the Outlying islands including Lantau Island, Lamma Island, and Cheung Chau Island.

The center of economy, entertainment, and politics – Hong Kong Island is considered the heart of the special administrative region. Stretching from the Tin Hau to Chai Wan on the eastern part of the island is the prime residential area of the region. The northern part of the island is the main commercial as well as entertainment area, stretching from the Central District to Causeway Bay. Likewise, the southern part of the Island is home to some of the destinations that are abound in natural beauty, such as, Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay and Ocean Park, which is one of the top-most theme parks in Southeast Asia.

However, most popular among the destinations in the island is the Peak, the highest point on the island that is perched at an altitude of 554 meters. The Peak serves as a perfect base to have a bird’s eye view of the whole of the thriving island as well as the spectacular Victoria Harbor, which is one of the three natural water harbors in the world.

One of the most popular ways to reach the Peak is to take a ride on the Peak Tram, which runs from the city center and reach here within seven minutes. Another stunning landmark of the island is Bank of China Tower – a soaring 70-storeyed building. In addition, situated on the southwest coast of the Island is the Cyberport, a high-tech facility supporting the multimedia, telecommunications, and IT industries.

The island is also much famed for its destinations including Aberdeen, a traditional village inhabited by hundreds of fishermen. From traditional style Chinese boats to most sophisticated boats, an amazing variety of fishing boats can be seen here. Further, located here are the HK Convention and Exhibition Center and Golden Bauhinia Square, which stands as a symbol to memorize the Return of Hong Kong to its motherland.

Kowloon is an exciting part of the city, and is considered one of the prominent industrial and commercial hubs of the nation. It is also home to one of the busiest airports in the world, namely, Kai Tak international airport. A ride on Star Ferry from Kowloon across Victoria Harbour to the Island would be a great experience. On utilizing the excellent options rendered by Kowloon, the city has now become a prominent shipping center in the world.

A visit to Hong Kong is incomplete without touring its amazing attractions such as Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC) Building, Exchange Square and the International Finance Centre, Victoria Park and the Hong Kong Central Library, The Fringe Club and the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, Happy Valley and Sha Tin Racecourses, and Murray House.

Attractions in Hong Kong also include an array of Buddhist as well as Chinese temples including Man Mo Temple, Chi Lin Nunnery, Wong Tai Sin Temple, Che Kung Temple, and Tin Hau Temple. In addition, included in the landmarks are a range of museums, such as the Arts Centre Pao Galleries, the Racing Museum, the Film Archive, Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, and Sheung Yiu Folk Museum.

Gastronomy – The city boasts of a variety of excellent options to satisfy your gastronomic needs, with restaurants providing cuisines, ranging from Japanese, French, and Italian to Asian and Chinese cuisines.

Shopping – Fabulous choices are available in the city for a great shopping, with a variety of shops on such happening areas as Stanley Market and Temple Street.

Also referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Orient,’ the city provides excellent options to cater to the accommodation needs of all types of tourists, no matter you are a budget conscious traveler or a luxury lover traveler. Many of the hotels and resorts are located within the heart of the city, and hence are within easy close proximity to almost all top tourist attractions.

  • When you to travel to a destination are you a tourist or a visitor? Do you assimilate into the culture or do you instantly brand yourself as a tourist. Unfortunately Americans have the international reputation for not blending into the local culture and sticking out in the crowd.

If you travel with a fanny back, you can rest assure that you will instantly be branded as a tourist. There is always an American tourist sporting the fanny. Get rid of the fanny pack, unfortunately it is cheesy and worse of all just plain ugly.

I know this sounds obvious but I have no idea why so many people open an oversize map in the middle of the street. Study the map before leaving the hotel or even better leaving your home. That way, a quick glance while walking around is all you need to re-orient yourself.

If this is impossible, how about taking a break at a restaurant or even pulling into a store to regroup. If you must travel with a map, try to get a small discreet one. Anything is better than pulling out the map with the fanny pack around your waist in the middle of lots of foot traffic.

When you visit glorious culinary cities such as Rome or Paris, do not eat at the local KFC, McDonalds or any other predictable American chain. Eat the way the locals do, grab the street food, and do not assume that it is dangerous it will most likely be delicious.

Leave the flashy jewelry at home. We expensive draped around your neck and the expensive ring adorning your finger, you are asking for trouble. You will either look as inexperienced visitor or become an easy target for local thieves.

If you are staying in a hotel, utilize concierge service. With their help, you will know exactly where you are going. If you have opted to rent a vacation apartment, prior to arrival find out if you can hire a guide to orient you to city so that you do not have to wander around aimlessly.

Please make an attempt to learn the basics of the language. Do not assume that everyone speaks English. The French especially Parisians appreciate the effort and will encourage your learning. A few keywords in the local language will open many doors. No one is expecting you to be fluent but you will be surprised at how the service improves when you memorize a few key phrases in the local language.

For some reason, tourists love to look up so if you want to look like you belong do not look up into while you are walking. This simple unconscious act is a dead giveaway that you do not belong here and are on borrowed time.

How you dress speaks volumes to who you are. If you witnessed someone dressed in shorts, a t-shirt with a logo, baseball cap, back pack and athletic shoes, you think they are an American tourist. The universal color for chic attire is black. The population of Paris, London, New York and other sophisticated cities tend to wear lots of black.

I recommend packing few clothes, then immediately shop the local stores, and buy what you find there, buy the clothes the locals wear. You will instantly blend.

Which is safer a hotel room or a vacation apartment? You want your hotel or vacation apartment to be your home away from home, but many of hotel aspects of hotel pricing and policy are not necessarily homey. So how does a hotel stack up against a vacation apartment?

Even in elite hotels, luggage can be stolen right off the luggage carts in the lobby. And the hotel assumes no legal responsibility for the loss. If your bag is going to sit for more than a few minutes, ask that it be placed in a secure room.

Yes, that designer luggage set will definetly impress fellow travelers but it also catches the eye of the local thieves that prey in hotels. The cheaper or uglier your luggage looks, the greater the odds that a thief will target someone else.

London has seldom disappointed one who has lived there. It has a rich treasure of history, culture, education, natural beauty, modern amenities and employment opportunities. It imparts a sense of pride into its citizens. The reasons are many, and significant ones too.

London is the cradle of the largest urban economy of Europe. It rubs shoulders with Tokyo and New York in being a significant powerhouse of the world. The multicultural population of London is one of its greatest advantages, and thus attracts all leading global businesses. The predominant use of English law and language also gives it an edge over competing economic powers.

    Employment in London

The British economy is presently in a vibrant state as it boasts of an annual growth rate of 2%. That London contributes significantly to this success story goes without saying. The employed population of the city is almost 3.5 million. Moreover, the wages this workforce enjoys are almost 20% more than what is enjoyed by the rest of the country. Thus, more and more people are attracted to London and they seldom have complaints about their pay packets. Manual labour has an average salary of £20,000, while urban white-collar jobs offer attractive six-figure salaries. The greatest drawbacks of the people staying and earning in London are the exorbitant costs of living and housing. Rental costs and housing expenses in London are almost double of what they are anywhere else in the country. But the problem is tackled by many by putting up at the fringes of the capital and traveling everyday.

    Major industries in London

Finance happens to be the lifeline of London’s industries. It is the largest of all the industries London has. The city boasts of being the base of more than fifty of the top hundred companies of UK, and more than hundred of the top five hundred companies of Europe. The newly developed Canary Wharf houses the global headquarters of esteemed companies like Barclays, HSBC and Reuters and hence functions as the secondary financial center.

Apart from finance, an industry which is growing big and fast in London, is the creative sector. Compared to other countries, the growth of the creative industry has been significant. It employs more than 4,000,000 workers and has an annual turnover of more than £14 billion.

    Educational opportunities in London

London provides excellent educational opportunities to deserving candidates. Esteemed universities like the University of London, London Metropolitan University, University of Westminster, Royal College of Art and prestigious colleges like King’s College London, Imperial College London and London School of Economics and Political Science attract students from all over the world. London residents can get the best of education, as a degree from any of these institutions is considered priceless.

    Leisure spots in London

London has many beautiful places that can delight a tourist. There are lots of Hotels and places to stay in London too. But the best thing about London is that people living there for decades also never stop being tourists there because of the attractive and interesting spots that never seem to get old. The Tower of London, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, the museums, the palaces, the churches and the parks never cease to attract the veteran visitors.

Openroads is a great source for tourists or visitors looking for Hotels in London, offering a fine selection of places to stay in London for budgets of all types.

  • Kowloon is one of the four main areas of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, others being Hong Kong Island, which is regarded as the financial center of the city; the New Territories, which is considered the farm belt of the city; and the Outlying Islands, which holds attractions such as the Lamma Island and the Lantau Island.

Literally meaning ‘nine dragons,’ the bustling urban area of Kowloon consists of three sections such as Kowloon Peninsula, New Kowloon, and Victoria Harbor. The best known part of the Kowloon is the tip of Peninsula facing the Hong Kong Island.

Kowloon is located to the south of Hong Kong Island in Northern Hong Kong, and includes five of the 18 districts of Hong Kong, among which most prominent are Kowloon City and Yau Tsim Mong. Others are Kwun Tong, Sham Shui Po, and Wong Tai Sin.

Primarily a residential area, Kowloon City is developed on the site of the old age Kowloon Walled City built during the period of the Song Dynasty. Al though a smaller district in terms of land area, Yau Tsim Mong is one of the busiest business areas in Hong Kong. The name of this district has been derived from the three significant areas of Hong Kong such as Yaumati, Mong Kok, and Tsim Sha Tsui.

When comes to attractions, Kowloon provides a great number of options for visitors touring the destination. Of which some of them are

Kowloon Park – which has to its credit an incredible array of attractions such as indoor heated over sized swimming pool, leisure pool connected by a number of waterfalls, an expansive Chinese Garden, a Children’s playground, and above all, an open air sculpture museum which exhibits works done by local as well as overseas sculptors.

Yuen Po Street Bird Garden – This is a must-visit destination for bird lovers. The focal point of this garden is a variety of songbirds in exquisitely crafted bamboo cages. The bird garden is open daily from 7 hrs to 21 hrs.

Kowloon Walled City Park – This is one of the newest parks in Hong Kong. The park is designed in a classical style Chinese garden, which is well manicured and consists of man made hills, bonsai, and beautiful ponds and streams. Highlights also include beautiful paths, flower gardens, playground, and pavilions.

Nathan Road – Also referred to as the ‘Golden Mile of Kowloon,’ Nathan Road is a busy area brimming with upscale hotels, shops, and food stalls. One of the most prominent areas in the road is the Park Lane Shopper’s Boulevard, which is home to more than 50 shops.

Jade Market – As the name indicates, Jade Market is a great area to shop jade items. But, it is recommended to take a specialist with you for shopping jade items.

Mong Kok – For shopping electronic items such as CDs and mobile phone accessories at bargain prices, no other destinations would be better than Mong Kok.

Wong Tai Sin Temple – A visit to Kowloon would be incomplete without taking a tour to this temple, which is reminiscent of a hermit who was well-known for his healing powers. A Chinese pharmacy can also be found within the temple. Nearby areas of the temple is filled with fortune tellers.

Other not to miss attractions in Kowloon are Tsim Sha Tsui, an area that is much famed for high class fashion stores; Kowloon Tong, a station within the local train network and whose prime attraction is an elegant as well as stylish mall with more than 200 shops; Night Market, which becomes exuberant as the sun goes down and consists of a number of open air eateries serving sumptuous cuisines; and Ladies’ Market, a popular area exclusively for shopping ladies’ clothing and cosmetics. Above all, stupendous is the nightlife of Kowloon, with an array of bars and restaurants.

In fact, Kowloon is one of the most magnificent destinations in Hong Kong. Hence, the area boasts of a number of accommodation choices to satisfy every level of travelers from budget conscious to well-heeled. Dining options available here are truly incredible, with a variety of cuisines including Japanese, Italian, and Cantonese delicacies.

  • When you are planning to take your first international flight to visit and tour other countries, there a few things you should know before hand about the flight and what to do when you get to your destination.

When you make your airline reservations whatever you do get an aisle seat. Even if you have to go to the airport to pick up the tickets an aisle seat is MOST important on those long flights. My husband, John, and I always, and I mean always, get aisle seats across from each other on the plane unless it is a plane that has a bank of seats with only have two seats in the bank.

Take some really comfortable shoes. I always wear my comfortable shoes on the plane because they take up too much room in the suitcase (they’re Rockports, clunky but comfortable).

When you get on the airplane, snag a blanket and a pillow for everyone in your party. They are always scarce and you might not need it right away, but you will later. Take sleeping pills with you and try to sleep, it helps. You will arrive very early in the morning and will be exhausted if you don’t try to get a little sleep. I can never sleep on airplanes but the pills help me relax a little. You will be landing very early in the morning so your hotel room will not be available until two in the afternoon. There have been plenty of European hotel lobbies I have slept in until I could get into my room.

Don’t wear anything that is nylon on the plane because it will not breathe. The most comfortable thing is a long loose dress or skirt and a top with sleeves. For men causal slacks and a long sleeved shirt either with or without a sport coat. The best thing I ever wore was a floor length jeans dress with sleeves that buttoned all the way up from the hem to the neck. If it was hot, I unbuttoned it; if it was cold I buttoned it all the way up. Worked like a charm.

When you are on the airplane get up and walk around every hour unless you are asleep. This will keep your ankles from swelling and don’t take off your shoes, just loosen them. Drink lots of water and avoid salt. Food on the airlines is minimal and awful. I’ve been known to pack sandwiches that are far better than anything they have to offer, just make sure you eat them before you land.

Keep toiletries in your carry on, toothpaste, tooth brush, moisturizer, waterless face cleanser (the sinks on the plane in the bathroom are nasty) and tissues for removal. Moisturize your body a lot on the plane because the dry and recycled air zaps your skin. I take a small spritz bottle filled with water and spray my face every once in a while, it soothing and keeps my face hydrated. Don’t laugh the stewardess’s do this too. Be sure you take diarrhea and constipation pills with you. When I travel long distances one or the other always gets me. One trick I learned is to take some Neosporin with you and Q-tips. Put the Neosporin on the Q-tip and dot the base of your nostril with it. This will stop any germs that are circulating in the closed cabins.

Don’t over pack. If you are not going on a cruise you will be schlepping your bags either everyday or every few days. My advice is to pack all of your clothes in tan, black and white which can all be interspersed with each other. One pair of black slacks and one pair of tan slacks can be paired with a variety of tops. A couple of scarves help make outfits different for the ladies and also come in handy as a head cover for religious sites. One pair of dark slacks and a pair of Khakis also work with different shirts for the men. Don’t forget a travel umbrella.

Make sure your camera is in working order, you do not want to miss any of interesting things in the countries that you are visiting. Take plenty of extra photo cards if you are taking digital because I assume you won’t be taking a laptop to download you pictures every night. Buy that stuff locally and get more then you think you need, don’t cheapskate on this, over there it will cost you your eyeteeth. Besides you can always return it!

You want to take a daytime touring pack that zippers closed. Carry in it, bottled water, Tums, hand wipes, a collapsible cup, alka-seltzer, SUNSCREEN AND LIP BALM, a small snack, an extra pair of glasses, both sun and prescription, a hat and if you are on a long bus ride, a book. I would also pack eye shades so if you are on that long bus ride you can black out the sun for a nap. Keep money and credit cards inside in a zippered compartment.

While you are out enjoying your new destination never put your pack over the chair back or on the chair beside you when at a café or dining alfresco. I would always put the pack strap looped underneath the chair leg so no one could run off with it.

Take lots of ones and fives. They are useful for street vendors and tips. Everyone loves the dollar. You will need to change some of your money into the currency of the country that you are touring. Shop around before you go to get the best deal. If you have a good relationship with your bank, they may be the best deal you will find. You will have to convert some of your cash into the local currency for little items like water, lunch or soda. Remember that no country will reconvert coins so spend those liberally. I know this very well since I have a necklace and a bracelet made out of foreign coins.

Just use common sense when you are touring. Keep in mind that you are visiting another country and they don’t have the same rules as your home country. It is always best to respect their customs and laws; you are, after all, just visiting.

Happy Traveling, enjoy it, we do!

  • Travel is one of the most popular activities and there are a large number of tour packages to choose from. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to ensure that you have chosen the best travel package. The problem is no so big and can be avoided by simply taking the services of a good, reliable travel agency or travel agent. But, how to make sure that the travel agency you have chosen is good enough? Don’t worry; all you have to do is a little homework before going for a particular travel agency. The travel and tourism industry is on its peak right now and therefore, the market is full of travel agents. Almost, all come with attractive tour packages and offers for the customers. The increasing usage of Internet allows people to know more about different travel agencies and their packages.

A good travel agency can provide you with a wide range of services. An important aspect that makes an agency a good one is their communication and support skill. A professional travel agency will have the ability to explain various choices in detail and if required or help the customer through a problem. Before choosing any travel agency one should look for its “Registration” and enquire whether the government recognizes it. The agents working for the agency must have proper license to do the job. However, registration does not guarantees professionalism or good service, but it only ensures you that the travel agency is not a fraud.

A travel agency is of great help to you in planning out your vacations. Travel is usually split into two parts – business or corporate travel, and leisure or personal travel. Even though, travel agencies will be delighted to serve you all types of travel, but most of them are likely to be stronger in either business travels or leisure travel services. Ask the travel agency about their specialty. If your need is ‘leisure’ then go for the one more focused into arranging personal or leisure trips. Try to find a specialist if you have special rather than general needs.

One more interesting way of knowing the goodwill of a travel agency is to carry out the acid test, i.e. ask the people what they think about the agency and its services. Ask the agency for a list of its customers and clients, and contact them to know about their opinion about the travel agency.

A tourist is munificent if he is attended well. Every travel agency or guide must behave as a representative of the destination because it is through him the tourist gathers impressions and information of that particular place and country. Ask your travel agency if they take care that all the facilities provided to the traveler are comfortable enough? Do they arrange hygienic food that is reasonably priced, offer neat and clean affordable lodging etc.?

These days a travel agency offers a lot of value-added services to tourists to make their vacation a memorable and luxurious one. A travel agent arranges escorted tours, discounts in hotel booking, incentive travel, and so on. A travel agency also arranges transport, hotel accommodation, and car rentals for their clients. They are also the primary source of booking for most cruise liners. Travel agencies know about weather conditions, customs and local ordinances, attractions, and so on. For international travelers, they provide necessary information on custom rules, essential papers like passports, visas, and currency exchange rates. Also, if there is any change in the itinerary in the middle of the journey, then the travel agents make alternate arrangements for the client. Find out if your travel agency offers these services at competitive prices?

Traveling can be of great fun if you take a little care and choose a good travel agency. Do meticulous planning and enjoy a pleasant vacation.

  • Hong Kong is a first-rate trading, financial and business centre. It does not have any major natural resources. It has one of the finest ports in the world. The country boasts a hardworking, industrious and well-qualified workforce of about 3.56 million. It forms the foundation of Hong Kong’s productivity and prosperity.

In spite of a few market crashes, Hong Kong’s residential market has long flourished owing to the country’s strong economy. The country’s free market economy mostly depends on international trade, as it has few natural resources. It has wide-ranging trade and market ties with China. As the island’s natural resources are limited, it has to depend on others for food and raw materials.

The land’s high position on the economic front is attributed to several reasons. It is situated halfway between Japan and Singapore. The charm of the island lies mostly in its nearness to the mainland of China. It lies near important shipping and air routes. Moreover, the country has an atmosphere conducive to business and commerce. The country’s economy has always been built upon commerce, and shipping. Today it competes with Singapore as the world’s busiest container port.

A property search in Hong Kong gives you a better understanding of properties available within your budget. You have to carefully take a look at the more popular condominiums, residential apartments and houses across the island. In order to get a clearer idea of which size would suit your requirements best, you have to carefully study the more popular listings across the land.

The size of a house is calculated in square feet, not in the number of rooms. House sizes are generally counted on the gross square footage. The active or useable footage is generally around 80% of the gross amount of space. In Hong Kong, rentals are collected monthly and additional charges such as management fees and government rent are not usually taken.

A number of real estate firms carry out customary market research. They keep databases for each market sector which allows you to watch changes in the working of the market. In addition to publishing property business update reports on a regular basis, many of them also conduct regular internal research programs such as detailed market studies and surveys.

Property searches help you asses the current value of apartments, condominiums and other properties in Hong Kong. They make the finding of your ideal house, apartment, villa, office, vacation rental or land easier. Bear in mind that you should view the land before you pay any money. A personal visit is an integral part of any property search.

There are many property locations and housing neighborhoods across the island and the surrounding areas. Owing to the country’s sprawling residential structure, it’s difficult to find out exactly which areas are the most sought-after in terms of high-end property – luxury developments come up just about everywhere.

There are several locations that are particularly attractive for reasons of accessibility, views and facilities. The most popular among them are Island East, The Peak, Hong Kong Island South, Happy Valley, Stanley, Deep Water Bay, Repulse Bay, Wanchai, the Kowloon Peninsula, and Kowloon Tong.

The embargo on luxury residential real estate in Hong Kong was recently raised and as a result The Peak is at the height of the country’s luxury market. It is the highest spot on the island and has long been a favorite hotspot for wealthy investors. It’s a much sought-after tourist attraction offering spectacular views of most of the surrounding islands.

It is not easy to enter the Hong Kong property market as it is the third most expensive high-end residential market in the world. As all land belongs to the government; buyers of property actually buy an agreement or a lease. Laws governing the real estate sector market allow you to own properties as an individual or through a company structure.

Property owners in Hong Kong are now at ease to wait for higher bids for their luxury properties owing to the upward adjustment in asking prices set off by recent land sales. Many investors in the country are reluctant to rent out their luxury properties since it would lessen their flexibility in trading the property.

  • Chicago – the city that has it all – from a diverse population, world-class educational institutions, and sensational restaurants to a breathtaking skyline and countless museums. Dubbed the ‘Windy City’ in 1893 by Charles Dana, the editor of the New York Sun – not for its weather but for its long-winded politicians, Chicago has grown from a village of just 350 to a bustling city of almost three million.

    Transportation

    Airports Serving Chicago

There are two airports that service the Chicago area – O’Hare International and Midway. O’Hare (ORD) is the larger of the two airports, servicing over 70 million travelers per year. Located 20 miles from downtown, there are many transportation options including public transport, taxis, shuttle services and hire cars.

O’Hare is an airport full of modern amenities and services. Recent upgrades have been completed at the International Terminal 5 and additional renovations are underway at Terminals 2 and 3. Expected completion date is later this year.

Midway (MDW) is significantly smaller than O’Hare, serving 17 million travelers per year, but is only 10 miles from downtown. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) offers transportation from Midway to downtown Chicago via the orange line buses. Other shuttles, regional buses and of course taxis and car services also offer transportation to downtown.

Midway has all of the amenities that you would expect from a major airport, including restaurants and gift shops. You can do some sight seeing in Concourse A where the Battle of Midway Memorial and an SBD Dauntless dive bomber are housed.

    Getting Around Chicago

Getting around town is much easier in Chicago than in some other big cities. Renting a car is a good option if you need to visit different locations during your visit. The city has several major highways, but plan to avoid them from about 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 7 pm on weekdays – the traffic delays can be very frustrating. To avoid traffic delays, the train system in Chicago can get you almost anywhere in the city – making it another good choice for business travelers that are sticking to downtown.

The Loop is the heart of the downtown business district – named for the elevated train tracks that circle the area. All of the cities addresses begin at the corner of Sate and Madison streets in The Loop, making the streets easy to navigate. Each 400 increment in an address equals one half mile.

    What to See

There is an endless list of things to see and do while in Chicago. If you like to shop, be sure to check out The Magnificent Mile, a one-mile stretch of shops between the Chicago River and Oak Street Beach. There are also numerous internationally known museums in the city. The Field Museum of Natural History is home to the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex fossil and the Art Institute of Chicago is famous for its collection of French Impressionists art.
