To the cricket fans, Barbados was already a famous name. And it became further famous because of hosting the World Cup cricket final 2007. Even those who are not akin about cricket but have interest in great sports event came to know about it. Yet, it is not necessary for this island country to bank upon cricket to grab the attention of the world. Ask anybody who had had the experience of Barbados holidays and he will tell you what it means to be in the country, even for a short sojourn.
The country is mainly famous for it sugarcane; it is the main revenue generating sector of the country, though tourism does not lag far behind. The tropical breezes of the country are as famous as its sugarcanes are. It is a fact that George Washington took his only trip abroad to this congenial country along with his ailing brother with a hope that the disease will be cured by the miraculous tropical weather. Though happened long time back, this fact reveals the worth of Barbados holidays.
In spite of being a very small island country, Barbados has one of the highest standards of living and literacy rates worldwide. Barbados’s Human Development Index ranking is consistently among the top 50 in the world, something highly commendable in comparison to the small size of the country. In the year 2006, Barbados was ranked thirty-first in the world, and third in the Americas. Only Canada and the United States were ahead of it. This indicates what Barbados holidays can offer to someone.
For those who are on Barbados Holidays, Bridgetown remains the most attractive place, though there are many other places that can prove to a feast for the senses. The beach near Bridgetown is fascinating. With crystal clear water, golden sand, tropical trees and ailing breeze, the beach offers an ideal place to laze around. Besides, there are enough scope for other activities like wining, dining, shopping near to the beaches in particular and all over the country in particular.

While Barbados is considered by many to be a winter destination, and can see approximately seventy-five percent of its tourist arrivals during the winter months, the island can also be a highly desirable summer travel destination.
The average daytime temperature on Barbados is between 28 – 30 degrees celsius throughout the year. There are two major differences in temperature between the winter and summer months and that is the nights of the winter are considerably cooler than the summer months as the cold fronts from the north pass over the island and although the official daytime temperatures throughout the year change little, the summer months appear to be hotter because it is less breezy.
For those who have always dreamt of a Barbados holiday but always thought that it was out of their budget, summer is the perfect time to fulfill that dream.
Summer travel to Barbados can be considerably cheaper starting with airfare, as the airlines drop prices to fill flights. Hotels are greatly discounted at this time of year with some of them as much as fifty percent cheaper. While this may not apply to all, many of the smaller holiday apartments and guest houses may sometimes even drop their low summer rates even further for large groups or longer holiday periods. Car rental companies also offer special deals, either in the form of extra days thrown in or lower prices, you can pay the same price for a five day rental in summer as you would have paid for a three day rental in winter.
Watersports and other activities companies do not officially drop their rates but like the small apartments and guest houses, it is sometimes possible to negotiate cheaper rates for groups or booking multiple activities.
While the summer months are the official rainy season, the island still averages 9 hours of sunshine per day even then. Rain showers tend to be heavy and brief giving way to blue skies as suddenly as the showers appeared. Making days that start of dismal turn out bright and beautiful.
The official start of hurricane season is in June and it runs through November. While the hurricanes invariably travel through the Caribbean on their way westward, the individual chances of Barbados receiving a direct hit are small. Barbados has only suffered direct hits three times in over 170 years and has been brushed by the edges a few times. More often than not these brushes consist of heavy tropical showers and gusty winds, all in all less intense than a Florida thunderstorm.
Barbados is so far east that most of the systems that pass through the Caribbean have not had time to develop into hurricanes and they are so far south that those systems that do develop tend to travel north of the island and the rotation tends to give the system a northward track. While they are exceptions these tend to be extremely rare.
To put your mind at ease you can check the satellite maps of the Atlantic before your trip as these can show storms or waves in the Atlantic days before before they even reach the Caribbean.
It is amazing that visitors fear the Caribbean in the summer months for fear of a hurricane but will flock to Florida and Mexico that have a higher chance of being hit.
As this period is the low or off season a far as tourist arrivals go the island is more peaceful and there is less chance of the activity or event that you are interested in being sold out, with the exception of activities that facilitate smaller groups of people like surfing lessons and scuba trips which tend to have small groups, and can also make for a more enjoyable holiday.
In terms of people looking for a family holiday destination choosing Barbados is ideal with the beaches swarming with kids on summer vacation from schools as well as a higher number of kids related activities being offered including more kids oriented movies in the cinema and at the Drive In.
The ocean tends to be calmer and warmer in the summer months and this translates to better conditions for many watersports activities including surfing for beginners as well as scuba diving and snorkeling.

Looking for a Barbados Luxury Hotel, a really exclusive resort with style, then check out the Coral Reef Club for your next romantic getaway.
Exclusive resort is a title claimed by a number of hotels in Barbados and the Caribbean, but investigation can prove that to be a little untrue. That is not the case for the Coral Reef Club a premier Barbados Luxury Hotel, which definitely can lay claim to be one of the most exclusive resorts on the island.
It is a twelve acre sanctuary of attractive and beautifully maintained gardens on the west coast of Barbados, and has been family owned and run for many many years, which gives a real personal touch missing in some modern resort complexes.
The Coral Reef Club has a reputation as not only being a very exclusive resort but also a real romantic getaway.
It is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, with just 88 rooms, cottages, and suites scattered throughout the colourful tropical gardens, and the choices of accommodation range from Garden Rooms and Cottages, to Superior or Luxury Junior Suites, to Luxury Cottages and Suites, to Two bedroom Units, Villas, and finally the Luxury Plantation Suites, so all pockets are catered for.
The top end accommodations are as good if not better than any you will find elsewhere on Barbados.
The elegant accommodations are all spacious, and have air conditioning, and the extras that you would naturally associate with an exclusive resort, and what is particularly appreciated is the fact that there is no charge for room service, something really appreciated by couples on a romantic getaway!!
The Coral Reef Club is closed throughout the summer of 2008 whilst a new Spa is added in the gardens, and this will only add to an impressive array of facilities, which already number three floodlit tennis courts, gym, windsurfing, hobie cat sailing, water skiing off the long stretch of sandy beach that fronts the hotel. By the way the Coral Reef Club has its own watersports set up.
You can play golf nearby, go scuba diving, snorkelling, even horse back riding, so if you are the energetic type of holidaymaker, there is plenty to do.
The original coral stone house is where the very good restaurant is housed, along with the bar and the restaurant, and not forgetting the open air views of the Caribbean, and the spectacular sunsets. The meals are amongst the best on this part of Barbados, and whatever you do, don’t miss the Bajan Buffet on Monday evening after the Cocktail Party. Evening meals have an emphasis on buffets, and if you want to eat out for a change, then there are good restaurants to be found locally.
You can be the most exclusive resort on Barbados, and the Coral Reef Club must be very close to that, but it can all be undone by hotel staff who lack finesse. This is very much not the case here at the Coral Reef Club. Not only are the owners completely hands on, their staff really seem to care about their guests well-being, from the moment you arrive until you leave. To call them faultless wouldn’t be an exaggeration
It is significant that there are a large number of repeat guests, many of whom are English, and although quite a few aren’t in the first flush of youth, they do create a wonderful almost club like atmosphere.
You will find it hard to find fault with the Coral Reef Club, and it is undoubtedly a lovely small, caring, exclusive resort which sets very high standards and consistently maintains them.

Possibly the most romantic hotel on the island of Barbados, can you risk not checking it out before booking your honeymoon getaway.
A Barbados Luxury Hotel is the simplest description, but others call it the most romantic boutique hotel on Barbados. Others say it is the perfect honeymoon resort, the perfect romantic honeymoon getaway. It has also been called the near perfect luxury boutique hotel, and the realisation of what a romantic honeymoon hotel should be.
All of these descriptions fits “The House”. This intimate and very private resort is just an oasis on the busy west coast of Barbados, situated on a glorious stretch of white sand beach.
Totally serene and extremely luxurious, this is a place to relax, it is informal but the sheer understated sophistication and elegance of your surroundings will make you feel special indeed, which of course you should on your honeymoon getaway anyhow.
The accommodation befits a romantic Barbados luxury hotel, in that there are only 34 Junior and one bedroomed suites, the size immediately qualifying The House as a boutique hotel on account of its size. There is a twenty four hour Ambassador Service, and Beach Ambassador Service. Champagne breakfast every day, afternoon tea that quintessentially English custom, and Canapes at sundown, followed by dinner at the renowned Daphne’s Restaurant from London town. This is as close to the perfect honeymoon resort as you can get.
To really enjoy a romantic hotel like “The House” to the full you need to be the kind of person who is looking to be pampered and fussed over by staff who will meet your every need with a smile, and then carry it out quickly and willingly and effectively. That effectively means most people, and if you could cope with a day that begins with a champagne breakfast with your eggs cooked personally for you, then it looks as if “The House” could be perfect for you. Then onto a very comfortable sun bed, and no need to ‘reserve’ one early, because there are plenty. Your morning will be spent relaxing before a satisfying lunch at Daphne’s Restaurant followed by the sunbed interspersed with chilled water, ice cream, and fresh fruit throughout the day. A brief interlude for afternoon tea, and then watching the amazing t sunset armed with a strong cocktail or two.
Out to dinner at a neighbouring restaurant, then back to the hotel for cake and port, then bed in a huge bedroom with a really comfortable bed and lovely crisp white sheets, to hear the sea crashing outside your window, almost so close you feel you could touch it.
You can repeat this exercise, or in this case non exercise for as many days as you choose. It is after all your romantic honeymoon getaway, in a wonderful Barbados luxury boutique hotel called “The House”. The staff will ensure it leaves an indelible memory. It is probably the staff you will remember. Luxury Hotels are luxury hotels, but the staff make them special, and that is why a romantic honeymoon getaway to Barbados staying at The House will have so many fond memories for you.

Barbados sited near the Caribbean Sea and is the furthest east of all the islands in that region and is famous for its palm trees and white sandy beaches that slope gently into the islands calm and tranquil seas. Popular belief is that the name âBarbadosâ means bearded-ones but there is controversy on where the name actually came from. Since my arrival in Barbados at the end of June I have very occasionally been approached by drug pushers asking if I wanted to become friends with Charlie or his friend Weed! At this point in time I wouldn’t have thought there was very much cocaine floating about on the island, but now I have seen the other side of paradise.
I have recently returned from an a 11 night break at St Lawrence Gap in a hotel overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea, which was by the way a very nice break. It was while staying here I realised how big business cocaine was in Barbados.
During my 11-night stay on the Gap I have never been offered cocaine so often in all of my life, as I have been here. Everyone wants to sell the Wandering Scotsman some cocaine, but I don’t need or want drugs.
I have now seen for myself how big a part of the tourist industry in Barbados that cocaine plays. I’m not exaggerating when I say drug pushers are rife around the Gap area. I was offered cocaine at all times of the day and every day I was there.
I’m curious as to how it can be so easy to get your hands on cocaine in Barbados. I wonder if the Government and police force just accept it as being part of the tourist industry and as a result don’t do very much to deal with the problem. Maybe the money that Charlie and his friend Weed bring into the economy of Barbados is too much for the so-called custodians of the country to do anything to stamp out the problem.
The high profile drugs bust a while ago of a minor UK television personality in Barbados was in my opinion nothing more than just for show. I don’t really think there is much of a desire in Barbados to stop the money that drugs creates for the economy over here. I am hopefully wrong and the new Government will be more pro active in dealing with the drugs problem in Barbados and actually attempt to do something about it.

Barbados is a great destination to visit on your holiday to the Caribbean. Barbados lies in the southern Caribbean, close to the South America continent. The climate is tropical, with mild temperatures kept bearable by the winds off the Atlantic Ocean. The island has the nickname ‘little England’ owing to the stamp that the British left on this former colony. The national obsession is cricket – like many other former British colonies in the Caribbean. This suits the relaxed lifestyle of Barbados.
Barbados is more than just an island in the West Indies. It’s almost a way of life, synonymous with exclusive hotels and fashionable restaurants. Barbados has one of the highest standards of living in the world. Yet what originally made the island so popular – its coral sand beaches, turquoise waters and warm, friendly people – is still very much in evidence. Even the tiny chattel houses retain their positions alongside the luxury West Coast hotels, ensuring that the island’s natural charm is never sacrificed. Barbados’ winter social scene continues to rival London’s, with its stylish collection of West Coast restaurants. There are some good venues to try on the South Coast too, as well as some lively nightspots. This is just one reason why being independently mobile is always a good idea here. Another good reason to hire a car is to explore the island, in particular the East Coast where you’ll find the island’s most dramatic scenery. Alternatively, take a helicopter trip, a VIP escorted tour, a day aboard a luxury yacht, or perhaps an island safari. It would be impossible to describe Barbados without mentioning the game of golf. The design talents of Tom Fazio and Robert Trent Junior have been used to optimal effect on the championship courses at Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane.
A holiday to Barbados gives you the best of both worlds… relaxation for those looking to unwind and plenty of activities for the more active.

Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and one of the most southerly islands as well, located at roughly 13° north and 59° west. With Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago being the most southerly. The island is approximately 166 square miles and is primarily composed of coral limestone. Its name was derived by a Portuguese explorer Pedro Campos in 1536. He originally named this island as Los Barbados meaning ‘The Bearded Ones’ thought to be derived from the bearded fig tree which grew in abundance.
Barbados is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with an estimated 1,500 people per square mile, mostly centered along the south and west coasts of the island and moving inland to approximately the center of the island. The eastern side of the island is more sparsely populated and this is where you will find the spectacular tropical vegetation and natural gardens and popular tourist attractions such as The Wildlife Reserve, Andromeda Botanic Gardens, Harrisons Cave, and Orchid World. Although on the South coast you will find The Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary.
While Barbados is not mountainous as many of the other Caribbean islands are, the view from Mount Hillaby, the islands highest peak reveals a landscape which undulates with a series of lush tropical vegetation draping steep hillsides sloping down to the shores of the east coast of the island. As you move southwards the steep hillsides give way to gentler slopes eventually leveling out to the almost flat plains of the south.
The contrast between the wild Atlantic windward coasts and calm Caribbean waters are dramatic in all the islands of the Lesser Antilles, but in Barbados it is even more so. The more remote East Coast borders the Atlantic side of the island. With its brown sand beaches and rough waters and lush hilly landscape could not be any more different to the west coast with its flat turquoise waters and posh hotels set on a mainly flat landscape.
Temperatures on the island average a daytime high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit or 27 degrees Celsius with almost constant northeast breezes, the winter coincides with the islands dry season in which showers may still fall but these tend to be brief showers preceded and followed by brilliant sunshine. The summer months or rainy (hurricane) season tends to have more intense rain showers and overcast days, but even then the number of sunny days greatly outnumber the rainy overcast days. The rainy days are often welcomed from the days of heat experienced during the summer months. While the temperature does not change much from the winter months it is less breezy and feels a lot hotter.
Barbados is an independent nation whose government is styled after the Westminster style of government and has always been blessed with political stability and has to date not experienced the political violence and tension which have plagued some of the other islands. This political stability and for the most part sound political leadership has aided the economic growth of the island, not only in the growth of the tourist industry but in the grown of the financial services and business sectors, including a vibrant offshore business sector, making Barbados the envy of the Caribbean when it comes to the quality of life of the Barbadian people.
Barbadian people are guaranteed free education up to secondary level (High School), it is actually a crime to keep school age children out of school and parents can be taken before the courts to answer charges for truancy. Illiteracy is almost unheard of and the life expectancy is on par with Europe and North America. Another guarantee which the Barbadian people enjoy is free Health care with children and the elderly also receiving free medication.
The capital city is Bridgetown, which is in the south-western part of the island. Bridgetown is a mecca for duty free shoppers, with numerous stores which sell every thing from duty – free perfume to duty â free liquor. It is where you will find the parliament buildings as well as the cruise terminal with its huge luxury cruise liners.
The islandâs airport (Grantley Adams International Airport) is located in the south east of the island approximately thirty (30) minutes drive from Bridgetown, and is serviced by a number of international airlines including American Airlines, Air Canada, Air Jamaica, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic. There are also many European charters to the island mainly in winter months.

If you are budget conscious, then why not check out the Southern Surf Beach Apartments in Barbados for your family holiday this year.
An affordable family vacation in Barbados this year sounds good, but where is the best place to go. You could do a whole lot worse than checking out the Southern Surf Beach Apartments on Rockley Beach. Quite staggeringly it comes out rating very highly in the top ten hotels in Barbados, and when you know the competition, that’s some achievement.
The Southern Surf Beach Apartments are in a prime location on the beach, and believe you me not expensive at around $92 per night for a Studio Apartment. This is an extremely affordable vacation by anyone’s standards and yet the accommodation is air conditioned, there is a nice private pool, and the blue ocean is just a stone’s throw away next so a soft white sand beach you can only dream about in Europe.
One of the great things about the Southern Surf Beach Apartments is that it is close to the action with great restaurants, bars, gift shops, and activities, all absolutely right for the affordable family vacation. It may be convenient but it is also private.
For Barbados to be affordable for many families, the accommodation needs a well equipped kitchenette and you certainly have this at Southern Surf Beach Apartments. The rooms are spacious, with 12 suites in the main building, and are absolutely spotless.
The best advice is to go to the 99 Convenience Store in the Quayside Centre, and the Big D grocery store, and either Lara, Rachel, or Tony will give you directions. You can stock up on basics for breakfast, and don’t forget the makings for a rum punch!! Go to the Life Guard Hut on the beach, by the way there is a two lane road to cross, and rent a chair from Junior, and it will only cost you $5 Barbados a day. There are several restaurants that you can walk to easily including right next door where you will find Bert’s Bar, and Mike’s which is just down the street. Add to this Shakers Bar and Grill at Brown’s Gap, which does need a reservation, and Just Grilling in the Quay Plaza. Be advised that a number of restaurants don’t accept credit cards.
An affordable Vacation in Barbados is obviously a little different to the expensive enclaves of the major five star hotel chains. Those holidaymakers live in a vacuum, and quite honestly they could be anywhere, because the only time they venture out is the trip to and from the airport. The beauty of staying in a place like Southern Surf Beach Apartments is that you get a much better feel for the country you are staying in. You can eat in local restaurants with local people, if you are wise you will use the local bus system to see the rest of Barbados, and you will discover firstly how affordable it is, and you will get the opportunity to mix and mingle with the lovely people who live on Barbados.
The Southern Surf Beach Apartments are perfect for a family on a budget who don’t like large hotels, for people looking for a small hotel away from the crowds. If you are looking for a fabulous beach, and don’t want it to be too expensive then this could be the affordable vacation you are looking for in Barbados.
