    3 cheers to Mr …
    3 cheers to Mr Sylvester!

When I first saw this on HBO in November 1978, I honestly thought that this jump scene was some sort of visual effect concocted by way of Industrial Light and Magic (as Star Wars was a year and a half old by that time). It wasn’t until around 2000 when I saw the DVD extras that I learned that this jump was 4 real! Nonetheless this movie and Moonraker inspired me to take up skydiving and (in short order) BASE jumping!

Thank you, Cubby (et al) for the inspiration!

It was a great movie, but the ending was really boring because Stromberg is shot. He was pretty bad, he needed a more violent death.

ingareinar007, the jump was NOT done from a helicopter. It was all filmed in one shot from Canada’s Mt. Asgard on Baffin Island. Rick Sylvester really did ski off the cliff and deploy his parachute. It’s the best authentic film stunt ever done, even to this day.

Look carefully, the ski almost hits his parashute in the jump. Special assistant to the producer, Michael Wilson, saw a magazine with a whiskey commertial. But he didn`t know that the jump was done from a helicopter. But Rick said he could do it for real!

The jump is real! A one-take shot! The guy is an American lawyer and a famous climber. Rick Sylvester! After the film, he and his girlfriend climbed up the same mountain near Asgarden I think it was. (Wrong spelling maybe) He was payed 30.000 dollars, a record sum at the time. He wears yellow and red, while the badys wears black. That is bechause it shall be easy in the fast action to see who`s who, like always in Bond. Fantastic film!
